The Classics Department was founded by Alice Maynwaring (writer, actor, ritualist) and Morgane Ciot (writer, director).
We produce a range of events. Our favorite projects are devised theatrical experiments that use ritual and improvisation to coax participants into alternate realities of beauty, mischief, and madness.
co-artistic director
Morgane is a writer & director based in NYC. Her work with The Classics Department includes directing the genre-bending shows PSYCHOMAGIC 9 and BET ON LOVE. Her first short film, Vibrator Girl, had its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film & TV festival, and was an official selection at Palm Springs International ShortFest, SIFF + Museum of Pop Culture Science Fiction, and others. She was voted "Most Mischievous Girl" in her senior year of high school. Her male counterpart was the kid who threatened to bomb the school. :(
